Annalee Newitz: Stories Are Weapons (Hardcover, 2024, Norton & Company Limited, W. W.) 5 stars

A sharp and timely exploration of the dark art of manipulation through weaponized storytelling, from …

Stops and starts in my reading path; not the author's fault — I would occasionally get overwhelmed and go read something a little less heartbreaking and a little more fictional.

Ruthanna Emrys: A Half-Built Garden (2022, Doherty Associates, LLC, Tom) 4 stars

On a warm March night in 2083, Judy Wallach-Stevens wakes to a warning of unknown …

Delightful first contact story; feels like it's set among the aftermath of the New York Communes. Complex, high-stakes plot nuances about baby wearing, gender complexity and expression, neurodiversity. Critical plot developments happen around Seder. Octavia Butler makes an appearance in the Haggadah!

Alan Moore: The Great When (Hardcover, 2024, Bloomsbury Publishing USA) No rating
