Amazing 2000 year old journal

This is pretty amazing, and one of the easier to read translations of the journal(s) of Marcus Aurelius, one of the Roman Emperors. This is disjoint chunks of information and ideas, some repeated, some with references long lost.

It serves as his journal during his leadership time, and probably served as his outlet for things he could not say given his position.

I would not recommend powering through this. Read it in bits, ponder, and then come back to it.

Different

Lots of reviews online for this. It basically lived up to expectations. I found it interesting for what it is. The notes and musings of a Roman emperor and stoic philosopher from some 2000 years ago. One to dip into every now and then. It’s a difficult read in one hit as it is repetitive and lacks a clear structure or thread. Nevertheless I found it interesting and was intrigued to be reading something (albeit adapted) that was so old and also “personal” in terms of thought processes Aurelius would have had.

Good book but notes are poorly linked

The content is great but the notes are linked poorly (at least in the Kindle version). In the end there are plethora of helpful notes explaining ancient things, but they are only linked backwards. I.e. not from text to footnotes but from notes to text, making their discovery hard.
